::Brotherly Love::

Matt rode home all tired and angry. He decided to purchase Chinese takeout at the corner of his apartment before heading upstairs. As he unloaded his stuff from his scooter, he noticed a familiar car pull up in front of his apartment. As the chauffeur opened the door and let the person in the backseat out, Matt smiled.

"God... Two months already?" Matt replied. The guy smiled and stepped into the light. It was Matt's older brother, Alexander, "Sorry, I just came back from work. Come on up. I bought Chinese, we can split," Matt said and motioned for Alex to follow him. Alex smiled and walked up to Matt's apartment.

"At least you've fixed your abode up..." Alex commented as Matt threw his work stuff down on the floor, "...but you better start cleaning up this place."

"Come on Lex, you've been barking at me about my apartment for a long time. I live on my own now. I like my place as it is," Matt said as he started to dish out the greasy Chinese food onto paper plates before handing it to Alex, who certainly looked disgusted by the look of the food.

"No thank you, Matthew. I came today not just on my regular bi-monthly visits but I want to ask your for a favor," Alex said.

Matt scooped up a spoonful of the food into his mouth and said, "What's up?"

Alex heaved a sigh and worked up the courage to say what he had to say, "Annanessa and I are getting married in two months' time..."

"...that's great! Congratulations, brother!" Matt said and hugged his brother with his greasy fingers that made Alex cringe a little.

"Thank you but I'm not finished, brother. I... I mean, Annanessa and I were hoping... well, rather Father and Mother and all of us... were hoping... you could come back for the ceremony," Alex finally said.

Matt then placed his food down and wiped the gravy off his mouth with his hand. "No way, Lex. As much as I love you as my brother, I don't want to go back there... that's why I left home in the first place!"

"Matthew, listen to me. Everyone misses you... especially Mother. She is constantly thinking about you and she is still hoping you would come home. Why can't you just pursue your artistic talents back home where your would have a living condition hundred times better than this?" Alex reasoned.

Matt paced around the apartment and banged his fist against the wall, "I don't need this Lex. I got this years ago when I left from Father. I know you, you're not going to be like Father when you get married and take over being the Duke... or are you?"

Alex shook his head and walked closer to his younger brother, "No Matthew, I'm not going to be Father. I'm going to be who I am... and I love you, just like every one else in the family. You are a nobel, Matthew... a son of the Duke of Eisenberg! That's who you are!"

"NO! I used to be a nobel but I gave it up to do what I really love... art! I don't care about being a Lord! I want to be me... just Matt. I miss Mother and you, Lex but I'm not going back to face Father and his ridicules about my passion. I would rather live like a commoner than become a nobel without passion," Matt said.

Alex understood where his younger brother was coming from. Alex was the apple of their father's eye and did everything their father wanted them to do but Matt was the younger and more emotionally-driven of the two. He wanted to do what he loved instead of being ruled by the ways of nobility. That was why Matt left home and lived in another town by himself.

"Alright. I'm not going to push the matter. Matthew, just think about coming to the ceremony. It's just one day... and you don't have to stay the night. Call me if you change your mind," Alex said as he hugged his brother, "I still love you a lot, my baby brother."

"I know... I love you to, Lex. I'll think about it," Matt said. He couldn't be angry at his brother any longer. Alex had always been supportive of him and even kept the secret of his whereabouts from his parents for years, coming into town to visit him every two months. Just then, Matt felt his brother slipped him a piece of paper into his hand - a cheque for 20 grand.

"Lex... I can't take your money. I told you I wanted to make it out on my own," Matt said.

Alex just smiled as he opened the door to leave, "It's our deal since the day you left. You take my money and I'll keep your secret. Bye Matthew."

As Alex left, Matthew looked at the cheque and sighed... all for the sake of their brotherly love, he kept the cheque.
