::Sweet Adieu::

Charlotte and Matt started on the final touches to Matt's home late one evening. Finally when everything was ready at Matt's home as Charlotte and Matt stepped back to admire their work.

"Hey I thought you were going to immortalise me in an artwork here," Charlotte teased as she stood in front of the blank wall.

Matt shook his head, "I'm sorry babe. I was just a little caught up with work and all but I'll start on it when I return from my trip."

Charlotte was shocked at the word 'trip'. She never imagined Matt would have to leave her... so soon. "Where are you going?" Charlotte asked, looking all worried. She didn't know Matt was going to leave!

"I'll be going away for a while... to meet my brother. I promised him I'll make a trip up to see him," Matt said. He felt guilty he couldn't tell Charlotte the whole truth but it was the best half truth he could come up with.

"Oh. Alright. When will you be back," Charlotte asked, her voice filled with such disappointment. Matt looked at her in her beautiful eyes and whispered, "In a couple of weeks' time. I would come back for you, I promise."

Charlotte forced a smile and wrapped her arms around her boyfriend. "I guess I'll be busy too with my client and all. The event is around the corner and I have to make a trip up to do the arrangements and all."

Matt was glad that Charlotte would be kept busy while he was going home. He could almost picture the smuck face his Father would have when he comes walking through the door but he couldn't disappoint Lex for the world. He was the best brother and friend to Matt.

"I'll be leaving tomorrow afternoon. Could you just spend the night here with me?" Matt asked as he brushed Charlotte's curly locks with his hand. Charlotte agreed and locked Matt in an embrace again.

As the night fell, Charlotte helped Matt pack his bags and made sure he had everything he needed. Matt tried to make everything happy and fun just like how they had fun on their dates and when they refurnished his home but he could feel that Charlotte was worried and she was smiling because she didn't want him to feel guilty about leaving.

"Charlotte... I will be back. I promise you," Matt said as he held her hands which were icy cold.

Charlotte nodded, "I know you would never lie to me Matt. That's one big thing I love about you. I'm just worried because it happened to Dylan..."

Matt sighed and shook his head, "But I'm not Dylan, Charlotte. I'm going to return home safe. As long as you are going to be back here waiting for me, I will be home to hug you, to kiss you, to hold you, to marry you..."

Charlotte started to cry as she told herself nothing bad would happed to Matt. What happened to Dylan was bad enough and she knew that God would never be so evil as to take another good thing away from her life.

"I'll be here for you when you get back," she whispered.

The next morning, Charlotte left Matt to finish packing when she rushed back to say goodbye to her best friend who was also leaving her at the same time. Mrs Webber was already wishing Luke goodbye as he was putting the last of his bags into his car.

"Luke wait!" Charlotte said as she rushed towards Luke with a big hug.

"I thought you weren't coming," Luke said with a smile, "But I'm glad you're here now."

Charlotte forced a smile and replied, "You're my best friend, silly. Of course I'll be back here to wish you goodbye."

As Luke pulled away from the curb, he watched Charlotte through his rearview mirror and he told himself he would find someway to get her back into his life... somehow... in due time.

"Why is everyone leaving me?" Charlotte sighed as she returned back into the shop. Mrs Webber was puzzled at what she was hearing her daughter say. Charlotte explained how Luke left and how Matt was leaving to visit his brother.

"Charlotte, don't be upset. I'm sure Matt will return home safe and sound," Mrs Webber replied.

"That's what you said the last time... Dylan... God... why do I always have to be so paranoid?" Charlotte grumbled as she placed her face in her hands.

Mrs Webber placed her arms around her daughter, "Don't be upset. What you went through was hard but it is never going to happen twice. Matt is going to be home soon. Meanwhile, I'll be here and I love you so much."

Charlotte thanked her mother for being so wonderful. She knew that Matt was going to be alright... she just needed that extra assurance.

"Now go and say goodbye to him before he leaves. I'll take care of everything here," Mrs Webber said as she gave her daughter a kiss.
