::Promises::

Matt paced around in his kitchen trying to come up with something to stall his brother. Matt felt as though he was caught in the middle: he didn't want to disappoint his brother but he didn't want to go back and face his past that he avoided for so many years. Why should he go back and be forced to live a life that he never liked in the first place?

"I don't know Lex. I'm still considering," Matt finally answered.

"I need your support on this Matt. Seeing you there would mean the world to me. You're not only my only brother but my best friend," Alex said. Matt felt so guilty.

Since young, Alex was the only person who defended Matt and supported him in everything he did. Alex would put himself in the frontline and allow Matt to be free to do whatever he wanted. Alex was the man that their father wanted both of them to be and the reason why Matt got off the hook is because Alex persuaded their father to let Matt go for what he really wanted in life.

Even when Matt wanted to leave home and make a living from his passion, Alex was the one who helped him find an apartment and keep it a secret from his parents. It's been so many years and Matt still hadn't found a chance to thank his brother for what he had done for him. Matt realised that he should be taking this opportunity to make his brother happy for once.

"Alright... I should be able to make it BUT don't take it as a confirmation yet. I'll call you again as the day draws closer," Matt finally gave in.

"That's wonderful, Matthew. Thank you for agreeing to this," Alex answered, his voice sounded excited.

"Don't you dare tell Mother and Father about this yet. I don't want them to know a single thing," Matt warned.

"I know Matthew. Hope to hear good news from you soon. I'll get things prepared for you here. All you need to do is to turn up," Alex replied.

"I'll try my best, Lex."

Mrs Webber was making the final preparations for tomorrow at her apartment. She could not afford to go anyway when Charlotte was still in such a precarious state. She needed to make sure that Charlotte would be alright.

In the late afternoon, Charlotte finally came out of her room and she was holding her towel and fresh clothes. She noticed her mother and her best friend staring at her as though she was a zoo exhibit.

"I'm going to shower? Is there a problem?" Charlotte said. The two shook their heads then went back to doing their stuff. Charlotte sighed and went into the bathroom.

"Is she really alright?" Luke whispered to Mrs Webber, "She looks brighter than this morning."

"I should think so. Maybe she thought things through and is picking herself up again. Charlotte is a strong girl... just don't aggravate her to think of Dylan or any of the bad times," Mrs Webber said.

"I'm sorry... I didn't know what I said to her would make her like this," Lucas said.

Mrs Webber placed a comforting hand on Lucas' shoulder, "Don't worry about it. You can always make her feel better by being by her side no matter what. I'm getting old and I need someone to take care of Charlotte... if you know what I mean. I don't want her to be alone."

Lucas nodded, "I understand Mrs Webber. I'll do anything and everything in my power to make her the happiest woman in the world." However, Lucas wondered if Charlotte would ever give him the chance to show her that he was truly capable of making her happy.
