::Moving On::

"Matthew... please don't be like this," Alex begged as Matt ignored him and got onto his scooter.

"Lex, as much as I respect you as my brother, I won't take your money. I really have to make a move now. See you," Matt said and rode off but he could still hear his brother calling him. He never felt so guilty before. He knew Alex meant well but he needed to break free from his family and more importantly, he needed to forget he ever had that family.

As he rode down the streets towards Charlotte's shop, Matt felt as though a whirl of thoughts just clouded his mind... he could not stop thinking about how guilty he felt to Alex as well as the emotions and feelings he had for Charlotte.

Matt thought to himself. If he'd just go back to Eisenberg, his life would be just perfect and he need not think about where his next meal or rent money would come from. He could see his brother everyday and spend more time with him. He could then focus on his painting... but he had to answer to his Father who wanted him to take care of politics, the economy and all that nonsense which Matt was not interested in.

If he stayed back here... he could have all the independence he wanted, see his brother once a month and the most important thing was that Charlotte lived close and he could see her whenever he wanted.

"Ar stop thinking about everything! Just go there... have a good time, say hi to Charlotte and then pretend nothing like this ever happened!" Matt said to himself as he sped on down the streets.

Charlotte was busy attending to her customers. Some came to catch a glimpse of the new shop in town while some others came because of the free food and drinks. Luke, her mother and her have been busy mingling with the crowd since morning. Charlotte checked her watch... it was nearly noon but Matt wasn't here. However, Charlotte was glad that Luke could be around to help though he did say he had a busy schedule from work.

"Shouldn't you be getting back to your work?" Charlotte asked Luke when she finally got him off a customer.

"Don't worry, I'm keeping time. I won't let this interfere with my work. Besides, I want to help you and your mother a bit. Business isn't something easy to do when you don't have a good amount of contacts," Luke said, squeezing Charlotte's shoulder.

"Thank you Luke. I really appreciate everything," Charlotte said and hugged him. Luke forced a smile but he knew this wasn't going to allow him to score with Charlotte anytime but he just wanted to be close to her. It was his chance now and he wasn't going to let go.

Then as Luke went back to help with the mingling, Charlotte caught a glance of blonde hair walking towards her... she smiled! It was Matt! Charlotte slowly maneuvered herself across the room and she finally locked gazes with Matt.

"Hey, you're here," Charlotte said, she didn't want to let him know she was waiting the whole time for him to appear.

"Yeah. Sorry I couldn't come down earlier. Was held up with some work," Matt answered, ruffling his hair, "Nice party."

"Oh you want a drink? I could... get some for your over there..." Charlotte said, trying to walk towards the party table but Matt stopped her.

"It's ok Charlotte. I know you're busy. I just wanna drop by to congratulate you and I'll head back to my work. I have some stuff due in a few days... some gallery owners are coming down to see if my work could go up on their galleries," Matt answered.

"Wow, that's wonderful! Congratulations to you too," Charlotte replied, in her heart she just felt a little upset that Matt had to leave so early, "Well, let me walk you out?" Matt smiled and agreed as they moved out from the crowded shop.

Finally, they were alone at the sidewalk and they looked uncomfortable because they did not know what to say to each other. Matt shyly tucked his hands into his pockets while Charlotte crossed her arms across her chest.

"Thanks again for coming by. It's nice to see you again... though it's for a while," Charlotte finally said, breaking the ice.

"I'm happy to see you again. Maybe we can meet up again after everything is settled?" Matt asked.

Charlotte nodded, "That's a good idea. I'd like that."

Matt reached out and hugged Charlotte. He could not wait to hold her again... and that moment was just perfect for him to take the plunge. After a while, he let go of Charlotte and noticed her face was flushed red.

"Goodbye Charlotte," Matt said before he walked to his scooter, put on his helmet and started the engine. He glanced back at Charlotte who was watching him longingly and smiled.

After Matt rode off, Charlotte turned back to the shop and noticed Luke standing at the doorways watching her. She was certain he saw everything and she avoided his gaze.

"What are you doing here? I thought you were with some customers," Charlotte asked.

"I just wanted to let you know I had to leave when I noticed you were busy. I'll make a move now," Luke said. Charlotte just thanked him once more and went back into the shop after saying goodbye. Luke was hurt when there was no hug no waiting for him to pull away... nothing like what that other guy received. Luke knew that Charlotte is moving on again... but not towards him.
