::Friends For The Night::

Alex invited Charlotte to sit by his side. Charlotte couldn't refuse and settled into the seat. She noticed that Alex was trying his best to keep his composure but he was really upset by something.

"I don't know why I'm telling you this... maybe I just need someone to talk to and somehow God just popped you right here. Wait, what are you doing here anyway?" Alex asked.

Charlotte let out a little laugh, "Oh sorry. I wanted to check on the floral decorations to make sure they are still in good condition for tomorrow's wedding. I can't afford the flowers to look dull. I'm really into my flora. I guess it's a habit I got..." Alex nodded as though he understood how Charlotte felt but Charlotte knew he was just being gentlemanly.

"So," Charlotte said, trying to change the subject, "What is bothering you Sir Alexander? I don't mind eing your listening ear."

Alex smiled and told her without much detail about how he tried to make someone in his family happy but his actions were misunderstood as undermining this family member's future. "I guess it just hurts when you are trying to love someone," Alex sighed.

Charlotte knew how it felt. She felt it with Dylan when she tried her best to keep loving him, it hurt so much knowing he wasn't there to feel it, know it or reciprocate it.

"It's hard to make someone you love happy. Sometimes you have to think if you are hurting the other party," Alex explained. Charlotte just listened to his words. Somehow she could see why the people of Eisenberg looked up to his man. He was wise, charming and every eloquent. He could make anyone around him feel at ease. Though it was only the second time Charlotte was meeting him but Alex talked to her as though they knew each other for a long time.

"Well, I think you did a magnanimous thing for that someone. I guess that person has to realise how much he or she is loved," Charlotte said, "sometimes it's hard to feel it when you are already so broken."

Alex smiled at Charlotte and replied, "Ah but you must see that the people around you don't see you as a broken person but someone that could be moulded easily into something more beautiful and wonderful."

Charlotte turned to look at Alex. He had caramel blonde hair... those eyes... she was sure he looked really familiar.

"Charlotte? Why are you looking at me like this?" Alex asked.

Charlotte immediately stopped and shyly turned away, "I'm sorry. I thought you looked really familiar, so I was trying to figure out where I've met you."

Alex laughed, "Well, I guess I would remember your face if we've met. You are hard to miss in a crowd. I'm sure you have a suitor of your own." Charlotte blushed and began to divert her attention to something else around the room. Then she saw that familiar piece... the piece that Matt drew... of her. She stood up and walked towards the art piece in shock. How did it end up here?

"Charlotte? Is something wrong?" Alex asked as he followed closely behind her. Charlotte just turned towards Alex, still in shock and asked how did this piece of work end up in the dining hall of the manor.

"Oh. I bought the collection from this artist, Matt. I thought his works were a great fit for the ambiance of the wedding. Don't you think he draws really well? He has remarkable talent," Alex said. It felt as though he was rehearsing his speech for tomorrow's guests in hope they might be captured by his brother's brilliance in art.

Charlotte touched the piece lightly and smiled, "Yeah he really does draw well. You have great taste in art, Sir Alexander."

Alex smiled, "Please Charlotte, call me Alex. We're friends right?" Charlotte nodded and as Alex was about to show her other works, Alex's phone rang, "Sorry, it's my fiancee. Excuse me for a second."

Alex went off to a corner to answer the call while Charlotte just gazed at the artwork. She thought if Matt were here to see this he would be elated to know that the Lord of Eisenberg has his artworks for a grand wedding! She reminded herself to let him know once she sees him back home.

Just then, Alex came back from the call looking all flustered, "I have to go. Some last minute problems for the wedding. I'm sorry I can't stay any longer," Alex said.

"Oh don't say that. I have to get to work anyway," Charlotte said.

Alex nodded, "Alright. Don't stay too late alright? See you at the wedding tomorrow. Oh... and thanks for being a great listening ear." As Alex rushed off as he talked to Annanessa on the phone, Charlotte went ahead to check on the flowers.
