::True Friends Lasts A Lifetime::

It was nearly 6 in the evening and Charlotte was getting ready to close the shop. She thanked the workers and reminded them to come back early next morning. She hadn't seen Matt all afternoon and she was getting a little worried he might be overworking himself up on the roof with the banner. Charlotte stepped out and looked up but she couldn't see him.

"Matt? Are you there? Matt?" she called. Then Matt stuck his head out and smiled. He had paint all over his face - just like the way they first met.

"Hey, what's up?" he hollered back, "I'm not exactly done yet."

"Well, I'm closing the shop now. Maybe you'll like to come back tomorrow to finish up. I'll pay you for the extra day," Charlotte called back.

"The question would be if you would want to see me tomorrow. I could finish this up in a couple of hours and you would not have to see me every again," Matt replied as he continued working on the banner.

Charlotte thought about what Matt said but she did want to see him again. It wasn't like they were enemies anymore and Charlotte realised that Matt could be rather sweet and caring.

"Matt, stop what you're doing and come on down," Charlotte said. Matt was rather surprised but he obeyed and climbed down from the roof.

"Come back tomorrow morning. 9 to be exact," Charlotte said as she walked back into the shop. She could feel Matt grinning and she felt light and happy - for the first time, it was true.

After Matt left and she closed the shop, Charlotte decided to take a walk around town. To be honest, she missed the life back in civilization where she could meet people instead of animals when she went for her walks. She decided to make a stop at the place where she first met Dylan years ago. It was a smoothie shop where she was waiting for her best friend who didn't show up and Dylan was there to study for his upcoming exams.

Charlotte sat at the same table she sat that very day but it wasn't the same. Dylan wasn't there in his university sweatshirt and dirty jeans. She ordered her strawberry smoothie and just gazed... at the empty seat where she hoped Dylan would appear.

"Charlotte is that you?" someone called. She turned and saw a vaguely familiar face that she hadn't seen for some time. She couldn't match the face to any name and just forced a smile at the man.

The guy sighed, "You don't remember me anymore? Gawd... Dilly must have brainwashed you up in the countryside..." Charlotte then remembered... the only guy who hated Dylan and called him 'Dilly' was...

"Oh my god! Lucas!" Charlotte said and jumped up to hug him, "You've changed so much! I couldn't recognise you at all!"

Lucas was Charlotte's best friend since junior high and he was the one who stood her up at the smoothie store where she then met Dylan. Since then, Lucas hated Dylan to the core because he stole his best friend away and the only reason why he didn't scream or beat up the guy was because of Charlotte.

"You're still the same as ever, Char... still beautiful," Lucas said, "I hadn't seen you in years! What brings you back from the countryside?"

Suddenly Lucas noticed his best friend's face change. Something bad must have happened and he reached out to hug his best friend. Charlotte was glad to meet Lucas again. He was always in the same frequency as her. She couldn't help herself but to cry on his shoulder. She then told Lucas everything about Dylan.

"Gawd I missed you, Luke," Charlotte said after finishing her story.

"I missed you so much too, Char but you know... true friendship lasts a lifetime and I'm here for you. I'm glad you've moved back to town. That way we can see each other again. These past few years, not seeing you makes life so different," Lucas said.

Charlotte hugged Lucas again, "You're such a great friend. I'm sorry for leaving you for Dylan. I should have listened to you..."

"... hush now. Everything's ok now," Lucas said.
