::It's Just Lunch::

"Hey buddy up there! Lunch time!" one of the workers hollered as they left the shop for lunch.

"In a moment. Not hungry," Matt hollered back as he continued on with the banner. He was almost done but he just needed to be alone for that moment. Thankfully, the rays were not that strong today and he could just laze up there on the roof all by himself and just think.

"Matt?" he heard someone call from below. He ignored the initial calls but finally pulled himself towards the edge of the roof. It was Charlotte, holding up a bag of food.

"Wanna have lunch with me?" she asked, "My mother went off to get some supplies and I was hoping you could be my lunch partner for the day." Matt wanted to brush her off and try to play hard to get for once but Charlotte interrupted his thoughts and speech.

"It's just lunch... no strings attached," Charlotte said.

"Yeah? That's what all girls say in the first place," Matt replied as he made his way down from the roof, "I don't buy it but since you're my boss. I can't say no, can I?"

Charlotte rolled her eyes and propped herself up onto a crate outside the shop. Matt sat down beside her but making sure they had their distance. Charlotte opened the bag and showed him two sandwiches.

"Double cheese or steak?" she asked but before Matt could decide she handed him the steak sandwich, "Boys need their protein. You better just take this." Matt laughed.

"What's so funny?" Charlotte asked.

Matt laughed again. "Nothing, just thought you are one cute girl," he said and bit into his sandwich, "Thanks for the no strings attached lunch, by the way."

Charlotte smiled and continued to eat her sandwich. For a moment there Matt felt comfortable being with her, just sitting there and having lunch, watching the traffic go by and people just walking past them... some laughing and joking while others went on their solemn ways.

"You know...it's funny how people can't move on after a major obstacle in their lives. I just admire people who can live life so carefree..." Charlotte said and looked at Matt, "...people just like you."

Matt snorted, "Yeah right. No one is without problems. A carefree guy like me has worries too but you lead such a great life. You have a good mother, your own shop and a good boyfriend. You don't have to worry about anything."

Charlotte shook her head, "Life isn't that easy, Matt. It's good to have people in your life who cares for you but you can't forget those who used to care. Forgetting someone or something that you used to love so much is really the hardest thing to do in life."

Matt looked down at his feet and thought about his family... well, ex-family. He did miss them and they used to give him a good life but everything went wrong when he told them he wanted to pursue a life all about his passion. It was as though he was committing the unpardonable sin.

"Matt are you ok?" Charlotte asked. Matt looked up and realised that he had been staring down for too long.

"Yeah. Let's not talk about these sad things. It's just lunch remember," Matt said.

Charlotte forced a smile and nodded, "Yeah, I guess. Sorry if I brought anything sensitive up."

Matt shook his head, "It's cool. Sandwich is good though." Charlotte frowned and they started to laugh.
