::Inward Battles::

Monday morning came around. Charlotte and her mother were busy making final preparations for the grand opening of their new shop. Mrs Webber was making sure that the caterers and the other nitty gritty were being taken care of while Charlotte was taking care of her new friends - the flowers and plants in her shop.

"The flowers look lovely dear," Mrs Webber said as she peeked at what her daughter was doing.

"Thank you mom... for everything," Charlotte said, "Sorry if I acted all crazy. I was just really upset."

"I'm just glad you're ok. You should talk to me about it next time... you know I'm always here for you," Mrs Webber answered. Charlotte was so moved by her mother that she went across the shop and gave her mother a big hug.

Just then Luke entered the shop and smiled, "Sorry if I'm interrupting a mother-daughter time."

Charlotte smiled and went over to hug Luke too. That was a shock for Luke but he felt a light and fluttery feeling in his stomach. The only thing that kept him from hitting the roof was his determination to look calm. After Charlotte stepped back from Luke, he turned around so that the ladies would not see him flush.

"What was that for?" he asked, trying to look busy with the things he bought.

"For being there for me always... for being such a great best friend," Charlotte said before she went off to do her things. Luke felt his world crash back down again. She still looked up to him as a best friend.

After a rather action packed weekend, Matt decided to have some down time on his own before he went over to Charlotte's shop opening. Besides, his down time included doing practical work like painting. Everything was just perfect. He had the whole apartment to himself as he worked while his favourite music played in the background.

Everything was just back to where it should be... Matt was alone and enjoying his work when he heard the doorbell ring. He groaned, who could that be again? Matt opened the door and to his surprise Alex was standing outside.

"Lex what are you doing here?!" Matt asked as he noticed his brother didn't look too happy, "Is everything ok?"

"You didn't cash in the cheque right?" Alex asked firmly. Matt just looked away.

Alex sighed and walked into the apartment, "Why can't you just accept the money? It's not like I'm bribing you... I'm your brother and I want you to have enough to live comfortably!"

Matt shook his head, "I don't need it to live comfortably. I'm happy with what I have. Remember the reason why I left in the first place? I want to support myself through my own two hands and not feed off the family."

"Matthew, I know you're tough and want to prove something to Mother, Father and even to the world. I gave you the money in support of your cause," Alex explained.

Matt went to his desk and took out the cheque, "I'm not going to cash this no matter what you say. If you are going to support me in my cause, let me survive on my own. All I need is your spiritual support and not financial." Matt took the cheque and handed it over to Alex.

"I need to be alone now. I'll see you at your wedding," Matt said as he escorted Alex out of his apartment. As he closed the door on his brother, Matt just realised that forgetting his past was something so difficult and painful.

Honestly, he was really tight on money and what Alex gave him could allow him to focus on his passion and not have to do part time painting work. However, Matt wanted to be independent and not rely on his family for money. He wasn't part of the family of the Duke of Eisenberg. He was no nobility but a commoner.
